Turkey Breakfast Sausages

I am eating these as I write this post.  They are the perfect balance of being (a) so-good-I-can’t-imaging-getting-sick-of-them, (b) easy-enough-to-make-in-20-minutes-and-you-probably-have-all-the-spices-already and (c) just-too-much-work-to-make-often-enough-to-get-sick-of.  Are you sold?  Then go buy some ground turkey.

I feel like usually cookbooks that are riding off the success of a popular dieting trend are not that good.  I don’t know why I think this, because I haven’t actually tried that many of said cookbooks.  It’s just a prejudice I have.  May have something to do with my assuming these books won’t have a lot of pictures.  Also don’t know why I think that.  Anyway, the book is “The South Beach Diet: Quick & Easy Cookbook,” and has a medium number of pictures but quite a few recipes that I keep making over and over.  This is one of them.


Dr Agatston (author), uses sugar free pancake syrup.  Where I’m from, we eat the stuff from the trees.  He also recommends making these into a stack with tomato, sausage, cheddar and broiling in the oven.  I just like making them to eat either as is or adding them to a spectacular breakfast extravaganza.  He also says it serves four.  Maybe four reserved, polite people eating at their boyfriend’s parents’ house for the first time.  Or four of me if there are other breakfast foods involved.  Otherwise, two of me.

Turkey Breakfast Sausages


  • 1 lb ground turkey 
  • 4 tsp maple syrup 
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger


  1. Combine all ingredients, mix well & divide into four patties.
  2. Heat oil in large skillet over medium high heat.
  3. Cook patties until well browned & cooked through (about 4 min per side).
